ESUQLD Public Speaking and Debating Program

NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON 25 MAY 2011 for
The ESUQLD Secondary Schools’ Public Speaking Competition

The English Speaking Union in Queensland has played an important role in the development of School based Debating and Public Speaking in Queensland for many years.

The ESUQLD is one of the leading sponsors of the Queensland component of the Plain English Speaking Award, which is an annual public speaking competition for senior secondary school students throughout Australia. The national winner of the event is invited in the succeeding year to compete in the prestigious English-Speaking Union International Public Speaking Competition at Dartmouth House, ESU’s headquarters in London, the United Kingdom.

The ESUQLD also supports the Brisbane City Council’s Youth Public Speaking Competition.

The ESUQLD has taken on the task of developing the skills of speech and debate, central to effective participation in the political and commercial life of modern democracies as well as public and private institutions.

The public speaking competitions hosted by the ESUQLD aim to develop the talents of Brisbane’s young speakers and participants come from primary and secondary schools around Brisbane.

In 2011, the Junior and Senior Public Speaking Competitions will be held during June and August. The Junior Public Speaking Competition is the only one of its kind in Brisbane open to primary students.
