Fine Arts and Cinema

Fine Arts

Our Headquarters is the heritage listed ESU House in Cook Terraces in Milton. Prior to that, the English-Speaking Union Qld owned Palma Rosa House in Hamilton. An Art Gallery was provided there for many years, and the ESUQLD Art collection features the works of a number of prominent Brisbane artists. Art Weekends were also held regularly to encourage young artists in a supportive environment.

Art Awards

As part of our belief that English is expressed in many forms, we are encouraging visual communication through the ESUQLD Art Awards. In 2011 ESUQLD is offering a $5000 Art Award and also an Emerging Artist Bursary for Southbank Institute of Technology to the Value of $2000. In addition, our major sponsor, The Compass Group, is providing a $1500 award. The Theme for entries for the 2011 Award is “Queensland Heritage –our Living History”.
