Churchill Challenge for the Cultural Runway to Brisbane 2032

The ESU’s 2026 Churchill Lecture lived up to very high expectations, as this annual event has always been blessed with illustrious presenters. This year’s lecture was presented by Mr Ian Walker, chair of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, at the historic United Service Club on Friday 14 August, introduced by ESU (Queensland Branch) president Caroline Hatcher.
Ian’s presentation comprehensively brought us through the history of the development of the arts in Queensland, as well as his vision for the opportunities that lie before us as we prepare to capture a holistic Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane in 2032, celebrating both artistic and athletic endeavours.
The lecture was appreciated by members and guests, and prompted a number of interesting questions – are we up to the challenge? This was a memorable occasion, enhanced by the beautiful surroundings and excellent hospitality throughout the evening.
